Over the years we have worked hard to develop our skillset beyond asbestos removal. Methamphetamine laboratories and/or user contamination has increased tenfold over the last few years. Houses that have previously been occupied by a meth smoker/user or used either as a tier 1 (low level shake & bake house) or as a tier 2 meth lab will have high levels of contamination. This has serious long-term health effects for anyone subsequently occupying the house.

We offer expert services in both testing and remediation works.

Testing:

Areas that have been used to produce methamphetamines are dangerous and therefore need to be thoroughly tested and analysed to completely understand what chemicals are prevalent and need to be removed.

The first step is to determine the level of contamination, if any. We perform on the spot rapid testing to identify the specific areas of contamination.  From there we do individual forensic testing with a NATA approved laboratory to determine the actual level of contamination in each room identified as contaminated. This will then dictate the level of remediation works required. Be wary of companies offering a low, set price, lab testing packages.  These companies do composite sampling; a swab sample is taken of several rooms and combined into 1 laboratory test. This will give you an “average” contamination level, however, it does not give you the level of contamination of individual rooms. Further testing is then required for more precise information in order for remediation works to be quoted.  Preparation at this point is key to saving money in costly and unnecessary remediation works.

Remediation Works/Cleaning:

Children and pets are particularly at risk to long-term health issues from exposure to meth residue and its pre-curser drugs. Decontamination is not easy.  Regular cleaning products can react with the chemical residue releasing harmful vapours, or may be completely ineffective in reducing contamination levels. To successfully complete a remediation it is vital to understand the absorbency levels of different building materials and the effect of the meth residue on that material.   We use specifically engineered cleaning solutions to neutralize without the use of harsh chemicals. Uninhabitable time periods are reduced thus allowing reoccupy as soon as validation testing has been completed.

The final stage of remediation is validation clearance. We will seek a validation clearance on our work by an independent qualified hygienist. They will provide you with a comprehensive report to ensure your property is now clear of all harmful levels of methamphetamine and pre-curser chemicals.  Be wary of companies offering low cost validation clearance. They may be using someone who is not a qualified, or doing validation testing whilst building materials are still damp which can give false test results.  Remediation is not cheap so don’t skimp at this point.  At the end of the day you want your property to be properly remediated and using a qualified hygienist is your guarantee.
